Therapy Ideas to Help and Manage Increased Tone

Watch our Zoom Webinar with Gympanzees CEO and Founder and Physiotherapist Stephanie Wheen.

Learn about what tone is, what can affect your child’s tone and how to increase and manage your child’s tone. As well as some excellent stretches to try and how to improve your child’s tone with small changes to your child’s day-to-day activities.

Tone is made up of the neural side (anything coming from the brain) and the non-neural side (what is happening within the muscle).

This webinar covers:

00:00 – 00:25: Introduction to Stephanie

00:26 – 5:36: What is High Tone? The neural side vs the non-neural side.

5:37 – 7:23: Tone vs Strength They are 2 different things.

7:24 – 15:01: What affects our tone? Outside influences and internal factors.

15:02 – 18:08: Tone as we get older.

18:09 – 26:06: Stretching

There are 3 different ways to stretch:

Your chid doing their own stretches in everyday lift (the best type of stretching!);

Prolonged stretch – minimum 30 mins, preferably 60 mins, 4 or 5 times a week. This makes your muscles longer;

Passive Stretching – works to increase the muscle length to it’s current length but won’t increase muscle length. Great to do before an activity!

26:07 – 33:40: Reducing and Improving Tone This is the neural side – environmental factors, weight bearing and tone influencing patterns.

33:41 – 38:30: Tone Influencing Patterns (TIP’s) in everyday life.

38:31 – End: Conclusion and session takeaways.
