The Gympanzees 3 Peaks 2020 Challenge – postponed.
As we’re sure you will have anticipated, we have decided to postpone our 3 Peaks event in July. We don’t know how long the current Covid-19 crisis is going to go on for, but in the current environment many of us will be struggling to train and fundraise.
We do, however, still intend to run challenge later this year – most likely towards the end of September (exact date tbc).
Should you still wish to participate, this will give you more time to train and fundraise – something we fully intend to support you with. We will share a video with the best home training exercises (you will have to visualise the mountains!). We’ve also come up some ideas for fundraising in lockdown https://www.gympanzees.org/news/lockdown-fundraising-ideas.
Because of the exceptional circumstances we’ve found ourselves in, we are reducing the minimum raise this year from £400 to £250 – which we hope takes the pressure off a bit.
If you are unable or unsure about taking part in September, we are very happy to transfer your entry. We will be running the challenge again in Summer 2021 so you can join us then. Equally if you hope to take part in September but your circumstances change – we can also transfer your entry to Summer 2021. Please just let us know.
We will be providing information to those interested in taking part this year about what the change of season will mean for our climb (there will be a bit more darkness involved in two of the climbs but nothing that would hamper the event). We will also be holding an event in July/August to talk about kit, training, food, logistics etc and to give us all a chance to meet – either virtually or in person.
Thank you for your support and understanding in these unusual times. If you would like to speak to us, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 07495567731 between the hours of 8:30a.m. – 4:30p.m.
The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft). The total driving distance is 462 miles.
We will complete the walk in a team, headed by professional mountain guides.
We will start our challenge at 5am on Saturday 11th July, meeting at the Gympanzees office in Bristol and be driven to Scotland to begin our first trek up Ben Nevis, once we’ve completed the hike and enjoyed the views it’s back for a quick rest while we drive to Scafell Pike in England, another trek and hopefully more breathtaking views before heading back down and driving to Wales to climb Snowdon, the final peak. Once all the peaks have been climbed we will be driven back to Bristol, arriving back no later than midnight on Sunday 12th July.
- Professional event organisation
- Qualified mountain leaders
- Transport between the three peaks
- Transport to and from Bristol
- Group first aid kit with qualified first aiders
We are also holding a get together at Origin Workspace who are kindly sponsoring our event. This will be a great chance to meet your fellow challengers, find out more about how your efforts will support Gympanzees, get ideas for kit, talk food and drink for the climbs, and go through ideas for a fitness training plan. This will be on Wednesday 20th May at 6pm.
If you haven’t already then now is the time to sign up and start fundraising to help us towards the future of Gympanzees!
If you raise £1000 for Gympanzees with this challenge, we will refund you your sign up fee!
In order to complete this challenge we recommend that you have a reasonable level of fitness and that you partake in training prior to July. Unfortunately, due to the challenging nature of this event, participants must be 18 years or older (or 16-17 with an accompanying adult).
